How you play
Every tournament is played in the app, on your iPhone or iPad, against computer players. The app's rules engine deals and decides every game, by the house rules of the event's mode (see the house rules). There's no online play yet.
Events play 1 on 1, 2 on 2 with a partner, Cut Throat 3 or Cut Throat 4. A Jackpot Tournament is 1 on 1. A Weekly Ladder plays that week's format.
Citizen events are played in Citizen Mode and Citizen Gym. Inmate events are played in Inmate Mode and Inmate Gym. The two never mix.
Who can play
Anyone with the app. Under 18, or with no age given in the app's age check, the events played for a workout (the Iron Bracket, the Hard Time Invitational and the Gym Weekly Ladders) are played for bragging rights instead, and the Dominologist Jackpot isn't offered.
Entry
Every event is free to enter. There's no entry fee, in Dominologist Dollars or in real money. You never have to buy anything to play in a tournament.
Citizen events open as your Citizen rank grows (Dollars earned by play): Friday Night Table at Rookie, the Block Party Bracket at Hustler, the Iron Bracket at Shark, and The Dominologist Championship at Professor.
Inmate events open as your yard rank grows (Rep from Inmate games): the Count Time Open at Fish, King of the Court Yard at Cellie, the Hard Time Invitational at Runner, the Commissary Cup and the Lockdown Classic at Trustee, and The Big House Championship at Old Head.
The Weekly Ladders, one for each mode, are open to everyone: six rungs, climbed in order, with a new format and a fresh climb every Monday.
A Dominologist Jackpot Tournament opens when a jackpot is full. A jackpot fills with a cut of your Dominologist Dollars wins, matched by the house. Adults only.
What's on the line
Most events are played for bragging rights. The Iron Bracket (20 burpees a loss), the Hard Time Invitational (20 pushups a loss) and the Gym Weekly Ladders (10 pushups a loss) are played for a workout, and under 18 for bragging rights. No event is played for money.
Prizes
Prizes are play money and items in the game. In the Citizen world: Dominologist Dollars, jewelry, Tournament Ring levels and Dr.'s excuses. Inside: soups, money on your books, trophies and Lay-in Slips. A Jackpot Tournament's prize is its pot, in Dominologist Dollars.
Prizes have no cash value. They can't be cashed out, transferred or exchanged for anything of real value. Dominologist Dollars are play money: no real money can be won.
Leaving a bracket
Leaving before the bracket is decided is a forfeit: no prize. A Jackpot Tournament's pot is given up, and half of it rolls into the jackpot that's filling.
